Nollywood actress Etinosa reveals struggles after filming failed marriage

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Etinosa Idemudia has revealed that she sought therapy after portraying a character whose marital struggles closely reflected her personal experiences.

According to The PUNCH, the actress made the disclosure during an interview about her career, the emotional demands of filmmaking and the challenges of portraying difficult characters.

Etinosa explained that playing a woman struggling to conceive in the film “When Tables Turn” brought back painful memories of her failed marriage.

The experience became particularly challenging because she was also directing the production.

“That really did a number on my mental health because it was my life story,” she said.

Etinosa opens up about emotional toll of acting

The actress explained that moving between emotionally demanding scenes and directing responsibilities made the experience difficult.

She admitted that acting sometimes affected her beyond the filming environment, making professional support necessary.

Etinosa also recalled experiencing emotional breakdowns while writing her film “Osato,” explaining that she became deeply connected to the character’s experiences.

Despite the difficulties, she maintained that storytelling remained her passion.

The filmmaker revealed that she had become more selective about roles, prioritising meaningful stories over financial rewards.

She also expressed interest in developing more ambitious projects, discovering new talents and expanding her production company, Etinosa TV.

Reflecting on her career, the actress said she was proud of her resilience and growth despite entering Nollywood without established industry connections.

She maintained that her long-term ambition was to produce films capable of reaching audiences beyond Nigeria.
