The family of Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has revealed that his late daughter, Zeenat Balogun, died from complications related to sickle cell disease.
The disclosure was made in a tribute video shared on Instagram by Khalid Balogun, the actor’s son, as family members and friends celebrated Zeenat’s posthumous birthday and commemorated World Sickle Cell Day.
Zeenat, Balogun’s first child from his previous marriage to Sherifat, passed away in October 2024. The cause of her death had not been publicly disclosed until now.
In the tribute video, Jamal described Zeenat as a resilient young woman who refused to let her health condition define her life despite the challenges she faced.
“Zeenat Balogun died from complications related to sickle cell disease. She was a warrior who remained strong even in her moments of pain. She endured it with humility and strength, and it never defined any aspect of her life,” he said.
He added that Zeenat remained cheerful and positive even during difficult periods of treatment and hospitalisation.
“She was a happy person. Even when she was admitted to the hospital, she remained jovial with everyone around her and always left a positive impact on those she met,” he added.
In a message accompanying the video, the Balogun family said the tribute also marked World Sickle Cell Day and was aimed at raising awareness about the condition while celebrating the lives of those living with it.
“Today, the Balogun family remembers and celebrates the life of our beloved firstborn, Zeenat Balogun, on her posthumous birthday. Though her journey was marked by the challenges of Sickle Cell Anemia, she faced every battle with remarkable strength, courage, and grace, leaving behind memories that continue to inspire us every day,” the family said.
“As we honor her birthday, we also commemorate World Sickle Cell Day through this tribute video—raising awareness, celebrating resilience, and remembering the countless warriors fighting this condition. Zeenat may no longer be with us physically, but her love, light, and legacy remain forever alive in our hearts.”
The family added that while Zeenat is no longer physically present, her legacy, love and impact continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
