The Magistrate Court 1 in Otor-Udu, located in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, has sentenced Alex Young Vweta Egone to six years in prison for impersonation and forgery.

Egone was arraigned on Tuesday following allegations of falsely presenting himself as a licensed legal practitioner.

He pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him by the police and was immediately remanded in Okere Correctional Centre in Warri.

According to findings, Egone had been operating as a fake lawyer across Udu and nearby areas until his arrest by the Udu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association on August 2, 2025.

The arrest followed suspicions raised about his activities, prompting an investigation by the NBA’s Committee for the Prohibition of Unlawful Practice of Law Without License in collaboration with the police.

Authorities discovered several legal documents in his possession, including copies of deeds of conveyance and petitions addressed to various police commands. These were reportedly written while he was posing as a legal representative for unsuspecting members of the public.

Additionally, investigators recovered a forged NBA stamp and seal that bore Egone’s name alongside the Supreme Court number of a legitimate lawyer. He was also found with an ink pad and a stamp inscribed with his name, further suggesting his intent to deceive.

When arraigned, the Nigerian Bar Association was represented in court by legal practitioners D.O. Omage Esq and G.O. Fenfe Esq.

The court found Egone guilty on all four counts. He was sentenced to one and a half years’ imprisonment each for the first three counts, and two years for the fourth. The sentences are to run concurrently.
