Can we meet you?
My name is Biodun Jakes, a fashion stylist, style designer, and professional wedding stylist and a style coach.
How was growing up like?
I am the second to the last child of the family of seven, I grew up in a family where we love to look good, My older siblings were Like an inspiration to me.
I am from Edo State, Etsako Central, Local government.
I studied Industrial relations and Personel Management from Lagos State University.
What inspires you to venture into fashion?
First, I love to look stylish and I wanted to extend that to the people by making them look better in terms of their appearance because I observed that having a good appearance is one of the keys to having good success.
But beyond that, I was inspired by the CEO of Swanky’s Signature, Jeremiah Ogbodo.
This is my fourth professional year in the fashion business and I styled about 30 weddings in three years.
I have as well designed numerous outfits for clients within and outside Nigeria.
What are the challenges and how have you been able to resolve them?
Dealing with acceptance was one of the challenges I faced, having to convince people that I could make them look better than they were.
But because I was consistent with styling myself, that helped me along the way.
Secondly, having people pay for the quality of my service.
Do you have the intention of trying something new aside fashion?
I would love to go into music because I sing and I also play bass guitar.
How has Covid-19 affected you and your business?
In general, Covid-19 affected all businesses globally, however before the lockdown, I already have weddings to style as well as individual outfits to design.
Due to the lockdown and the government law of not being able to gather the crowd.
It affected the number of individuals I am supposed to style for a wedding, in terms of the wedding train.
What advice do you have for up and coming fashionistas?
Be original, Be confident about your work! and ensure to always deliver excellently well.
