The late Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, was buried on 15 September 2009 in his home town of Ondo, Nigeria. On his death bed, the late Fawehinmi refused the highest honour accorded him by the Federal Government because of the state of the country at the time of his death.

As a mark of honour, former President Goodluck Jonathan moments ago took to his Twitter handle to remember the late Fawehinmi.

He wrote, “As we mark the 7th anniversary of the passing of Gani, the Senior Advocate of the Masses, my prayer is that God grants him al Jannah Firdaus.”
