Published

Manchester City regained their 11 points lead over closest rival, Manchester United, after they secured a 2-1 comeback against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Villans took the game to City from the start and got rewarded just 20 seconds into the game after John McGinn gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

A miscued interception from John Stones allowed Ollie Watkins to pick up a long pass from Tyronne Mings before teeing McGinn who beat Ederson to find the back of the net.

The lead only lasted 22 minutes before the hosts restored parity through youngster Phil Foden who was set up by Portuguese winger, Bernado Silva.

Silva was at work again 20 minutes later as he bagged his second assist of the night leading to Rodri’s 40th-minute goal through a header.

The hosts were however left stunned two minutes after taking the lead when John Stones was shown a straight red for a reckless tackle on 19-year-old Jacob Ramsey.

With City reduced to 10 men, Villa were hoping to pull level in the second half with a one-man advantage but it wasn’t to be as the visitors were also reduced by a man in the 57th minute.
