The Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State has inaugurated its newly constituted caretaker committee, appointed by the National Working Committee under the leadership of Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulraham Mohameed, and National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

The ceremony, held in Enugu, witnessed a colourful turnout of party faithful from the 17 local government areas of the state.

Many attendees described the event as a new beginning for the PDP following months of inactivity and internal setbacks.

The new caretaker committee is led by Hon. Vitus Okechi, a former Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, with Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke serving as State Secretary.

During his address, Hon. Okechi stressed unity, inclusion, and the revival of the party’s winning spirit. He reaffirmed confidence in the party’s capacity to reclaim its dominance in the state. “Enugu State is PDP and PDP is Enugu State,” he declared, commending members who remained committed despite difficult times. He assured them that their loyalty would be rewarded when the party returns to the Lion Building in 2027, describing the anticipated victory as a fait accompli. He added that the party’s mobilization drive would be “efficient, smart and relentless.”

In his remarks, State Secretary Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke highlighted the importance of inclusivity and administrative competence in steering the revitalized party toward electoral success. He emphasized that the restructured PDP would be anchored on integrity, honesty and appreciation for its members.

The immediate past Vice Chairman of the party, Ozo Dr. Okey Ozoani, also commended the NWC for its confidence in the new leadership. He attributed the party’s recent setbacks in the state to what he called an “alien leadership disconnected from the PDP family,” and noted that 2027 presents an opportunity for restoration.

Similarly, Dr. Nnamdi Onyia encouraged members to remain steadfast, stressing that loyalty and consistency remain the bedrock of political progress and collective advancement.

Among the notable figures in attendance were Prof. (Mrs.) Iloh, Barr. Celine Ugwu, Barr. Chizoba Ezeagor, Chief Ken Obiora, Chief Chukwujekwu Nebo and several other leaders and supporters who turned out in large numbers.

Goodwill messages underscored a united determination to reactivate party structures across the 260 wards of the state in preparation for upcoming political contests.

The inauguration has reignited optimism within PDP circles, with members expressing confidence in a full reorganization, repositioning and eventual resurgence of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
