The Egbeda Police Division, Ibadan, has received a donation of an administrative block from Crime Alert Security Network and the Egbeda Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

Newsmen report that the inauguration of the building was performed by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Shina Olukolu, in Ibadan on Friday.

The CP commended the donors, saying government alone could not provide all the facilities and logistics for effective policing of the nook and cranny of the nation without the support of the civil populace.

He pledged the commitment of the state police command to effectively make use of the building.

Olukolu, however, sought for more collaboration between the police and the various communities for better achievement in reducing crime.

The CP also said that through the assitance of traditional rulers and the PCRC, the command had commenced the screening of intended members for community policing.

Those to be recruited, he said, would be between the ages of 21 to 50 years.

Earlier, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Egbeda, CSP Adeola Olatunde, had said that Egbeda division, being one of the largest divisions in the command, had a jurisdiction cutting across rural and urban population.

The PCRC, Olatunde said, had always contributed immensely to the security of the communities within the division through various means.

“The donation of this administrative block, which is due for commissioning today came to limelight due to the support of Dr Amos Olaniyan, the Chief Executive Officer, Crime Alert Security Network, in conjunction with the PCRC,” the DPO said.

Meanwhile, Olaniyan said there was need for the private sector to complement the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to make them more vibrant and efficient.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force to send their officers for training for them to have more knowledge on the latest technology in crime detection.

The police, he added, could also partner with private companies with the strength and skills to help in training their officers at no cost.

According to him, his company acts as a guide between the police and the people through the use of technology in accessing crime scenes.

“We believe the police will achieve more on the issue of kidnapping and herdsmen crises if they are exposed to new technologies and if they partner with those that have the skills,” he said.

Newsmen report that the Egbeda PCRC Chairman, Moses Adisa, had earlier commended the efforts of the police in the state in tackling crime.

He, however, called on the CP to upgrade the police post in Ogungbade in Egbeda local government area of Oyo State.
