Media personality, Do2dtun, has cautioned parents against treating children as possessions during separation and custody battles, saying such behaviour can have damaging consequences for both parents and their children.
Sharing his thoughts on X, the hypeman criticised the mindset that a child belongs to one parent, arguing that it often fuels unnecessary conflict and emotional distress during family disputes.
“The idea of treating children like a possession or property, or as if you own them in a fight, can eventually become an ultimate undoing. They belong to both parties and have equal rights and responsibilities,” he wrote.
According to Do2dtun, disagreements between separated parents are understandable, but involving children in those conflicts or using them to hurt an ex-partner is unacceptable.
“One party is allowed to be angry if the other uses them as a pawn or refuses to show up,” he stated.
He also reflected on the difficult reality many parents eventually face, noting that children often make their own decisions about relationships regardless of the sacrifices made on their behalf.
“The part no one tells you: no matter the sacrifice made, sadly, the kids will still choose,” he wrote.
Do2dtun concluded by urging parents to prioritise their children’s growth and wellbeing over the desire for affection or loyalty.
“Do everything cos you want them to be better, not because you want them to love you only or choose you,” he added.
