Dismissed Spain women’s team coach breaks silence

Published

Jorge Vilda, the former head coach of Spain, has expressed dissatisfaction with his dismissal just weeks after winning the Women’s World Cup.

Expressing his disappointment while speaking on a Spanish radio station, he said “In sporting terms, I am going to accept all the criticisms, but on a personal level I think it has been unfair,” Vilda, 42, told Cadena SER.

“It has been a special year. Nothing has ever been said directly but indirectly things have been said that do not suit me. Things have been said that are not true.

Montse Tome replaced Vilda following an incident involving RFEF president Luis Rubiales at the World Cup final.

Vilda believes his dismissal was unjust and has criticized the false claims made about him.

The incident has led to a significant fallout, with most of Vilda’s coaching staff resigning and 81 players refusing to play for Spain.

Despite this, Rubiales has refused to resign and has been provisionally suspended by Fifa.

Vilda, who had a successful tenure as head coach, winning 75 of his 108 matches and taking Spain to second in the Fifa world rankings, remains perplexed by his dismissal.
