Delta: Northern youths beg army against revenge over soldiers’ killing
The Northern Christian Youth Professionals urged he military against seeking revenge after the tragic killing of 16 soldiers of the Nigerian Army by youths from the Okuama community in Delta State.
Despite this, the group has advised the military against seeking revenge, emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice without further violence.
In a statement issued by the chairman of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals, Isaac Abrak, the group urged the Nigerian Army to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. They emphasized the need for justice to be pursued professionally and without harming innocent civilians.
Abrak expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, standing in solidarity with the Nigerian Army during this period of mourning. He emphasized the importance of swiftly identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the tragic act.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the fallen soldiers, and we stand in solidarity with the Nigerian Army during this time of mourning.”
“History has shown that heavy-handed responses can exacerbate tensions and hinder military and public cooperation.”
The statement stressed the potential negative consequences of heavy-handed responses, warning that such actions could worsen tensions and impede military and public cooperation.
Additionally, the group called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and state governors to prioritize the revitalization of forest guards.
They emphasized the importance of combating criminals who use forests as hiding places, urging proactive measures to enhance security in affected areas.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s army on Monday denied carrying out revenge attacks after the killing of 16 soldiers in the southern Delta state, as residents accused troops of burning a village in retaliation.
