The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to escalate their operations against bandits and other criminal groups operating in Nigeria’s North West, emphasizing that national security must remain paramount.
The directive was issued during his operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), located in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the readiness of personnel, identify operational constraints, and boost the morale of troops engaged in ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the region.
While addressing the soldiers, the CDS praised their bravery, resilience, and dedication to duty in safeguarding the nation. He charged them to uphold discipline and professionalism while remaining determined in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens is our responsibility. You must remain steadfast and pursue these criminals until they are eradicated. We must ensure Nigeria’s safety at all costs,” he stated.
He assured the troops of continued support in terms of welfare, training, and provision of essential equipment to improve their operational efficiency.
General Oluyede also reiterated the Armed Forces’ resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements until enduring peace is achieved not only in the North West but across the country.
Highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts, he underscored the role of air power in ongoing missions, noting that measures are underway to enhance operational capacity through increased resources and improved synergy across various theatres.
As part of his visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Zamfara State, Mallam Dauda Lawal, expressing appreciation for his consistent support for Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the military.
He also commended residents of the state for their cooperation and urged them to continue assisting security agencies, particularly by sharing timely and credible intelligence.
