Published

The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has donated laboratory facilities and air conditioners to the isolation at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).

Presenting the items in Uyo on Friday, the Chairman of the union, Dr. Aniebietabasi Obot, said the donation was to help the center in providing supportive care to COVID-19 patients.

Obot said the union was optimistic that the war against the coronavirus pandemic would be won soon, provided citizens adhered strictly to NCDC and WHO guidelines and protocols.

“As Akwa Ibom State presses on to flatten the curve of COVID-19, we present this laboratory equipment to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital as part of our contributions to contain the pandemic.

“We are optimistic that the war against the pandemic will be won if citizens take responsibility and adhered to the guidelines by the World Health Organisation.

“We charge residents of Akwa Ibom State to remain committed to the principle of personal hygiene. Wash your hands regularly with soap under running water. Wear your face masks and observe physical distancing,” Obot said.

Receiving the equipment, the Chief Medical Director of UUTH, Dr. Emem Bassey, thanked the union for the gesture.

Bassey called on the union members to collaborate with sister unions for effective healthcare delivery.

According to him, if all hands are on deck, the core mandate of the hospital, which is providing healthcare for citizens will be achieved.
