South Korea’s intelligence agency has assessed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “extremely obese,” reflecting ongoing concerns about Kim Jong Un health. They estimate that he weighs more than 140 kilogrammes.

According to AFP, South Korean lawmaker Youn Kun-young disclosed the assessment. He did this while providing details about the intelligence agency’s latest review of Kim Jong Un health.

Kim faces cardiovascular risk

Youn said Kim falls within the extremely obese category and remains at high risk of cardiovascular disease. This risk is a frequent focus in discussions regarding Kim Jong Un health.

However, the intelligence assessment found no immediate sign that the North Korean leader’s health was preventing him from carrying out physical activities.

Kim has reportedly shown no obvious difficulty performing demanding activities, including running up stairs. Despite regular monitoring, Kim Jong Un health does not appear to hinder his routine.

“It is assessed that there are no signs of health issues,” Youn said, citing close monitoring by Kim’s medical team.

Leader’s health closely watched

Kim is also known to be a heavy smoker, while his weight has attracted international attention for years.

His father, Kim Jong Il, and grandfather, Kim Il Sung, were also reported to have struggled with weight issues. Both died from heart attacks.

Kim’s health remains closely watched because of uncertainty surrounding succession in nuclear-armed North Korea.

His daughter, Kim Ju Ae, has increasingly appeared alongside him at major state and military events. This has fuelled speculation about her future political role.
