COVID-19: 838 new infections take Nigeria’s cases close to 85,000

Nigeria’s COVID-19 infection toll is approaching 85,000 after the Nigeria Center for Disease Control announced 838 fresh cases.

The NCDC disclosed this in the early hours of Monday, December 27, via its verified Twitter handle.

With Lagos State leading the fight against the virus by initiating fresh guidelines to limit the spread amidst reports of a second wave, other states are expected to follow as the number of cases rise daily.

According to the NCDC’s update, the 838 fresh cases were recorded in 16 different state including the Federal Capital Territory which has the highest cases with 297.

Lagos, first on the overall rank of infection by state, recorded 253 new cases while Plateau and Kaduna States recorded 82 and 52 cases respectively.

Others include, Katsina-32, Nasarawa-31, Kano-25, Gombe-24, Oyo-8, Rivers-8, Zamfara-7, Ogun-4, Bauchi-4, Edo-4, Anambra-1 and Sokoto-1.

As at the time of this report, the country has recorded a total of 84,414 COVID-19 infections while at least 71,034 patients have been discharged after making full recovery.

The NCDC further reveals that the death toll in the country stands at 1,254 till date, since the virus made its way into the country on the 27th of February 2020.
