JUST IN: Court urged to order arrest of Maina’s son for failing to attend trial
The prosecution in the trial of Faisal, son of Abdulrasheed Maina has applied for the issuance of bench warrant for his arrest owing to his continued absence from court.
Faisal is being tried for money laundering related offence in the same Federal High Court where his father is also standing trial for similar offence.
The lead prosecuting lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar, in an oral application on Tuesday, also seek the revocation of his bail and prayed the court to order his surety, a member of the House of Representatives, Umar Sani Dan Galadima (Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency of Zamfara State) to show cause why he should not forfeit the bail bond of N60million which he undertook to forego should Faisal fail to attend court.
When the case was called on Tuesday, Abubakar noted that it was not only Faisal that was not in court, his law and surety were also absent.
He noted that Faisal has shunned court in the last three adjourned dates, without any reasonable excuse, following which the prosecution lawyer made the application.
Justice Okon Abang is currently writing his ruling.
