Court remands husband for beating wife to death in Oyo

A 23-year-old husband, Aderoju Timothy, has been remanded at the Correctional Center, Abolongo, Oyo, for allegedly beating his pregnant wife, Awesu Rokeebat, to death.
The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iseyin, Oyo State, made this decision during Timothy’s arraignment on a murder charge.
Magistrate A.S Durowoju adjourned the case and ordered Timothy’s remand until the scheduled hearing date.
The accused, Aderoju, is charged with beating his 21-year-old wife on the 29th day of February 2024 at Ajadi-Oke Compound, Ijemba Area of Iseyin.
The deceased’s family provided testimony, confirming that the suspect had assaulted his wife, causing her to lose consciousness. The victim later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The Prosecution stated that the suspect’s actions contravene Section 316 and are punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the need for swift and just legal actions to address cases of domestic violence, ensuring that those responsible face appropriate consequences for their actions.
