Confusion as residents discover corpse of newborn baby floating in Ogun stream
Residents of a community in Ogun State were, on Sunday, thrown into confusion after the remains of a newborn baby were discovered floating in a stream.
The incident happened at Ijaye in the Abeokuta South local government area of the state.
The stream is near a popular market in Ijaye community.
According to reports, residents believed that baby boy was dumped in the stream by its mother immediately after birth.
A woman said something similar happened in 2018; she blamed the incident on the rate of immorality among women in the area.
A woman who simply identified herself as Adetoro explained that her attention was brought to the incident following the screaming of a woman who was washing her clothes at the bank of the stream.
She said:
‘’It was a shock to me and some women because we are mothers. We can not even stand it when we saw the body of the baby floating on the river.
“With our experience, it was a day- old baby, because of his curly hair and umbilical cord which was still intact.
‘’It is sad that a child which is a divine gift from God could be so treated by a heartless mother this way.
” Such woman deserves curses and that was what residents did; we cursed the mother of the baby.”
