The Lagos State Safety Commission has begun physical verification of social clubs in the state with a view to issuing them provisional safety compliance certificates.

The Director-General of the commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

Mojola said that the commission had started issuing the certificates to social clubs that have registered and have had their locations verified.

According to the statement, the DGhad visited the Ikoyi Club, Lagos Motor Boat Club, Lagos Polo Club, Ikeja Country Club, Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos Jetski Club, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Yoruba Tennis Club and Ikeja Golf Club amongst others during the weekend.

Mojola commended the level of compliance and assured of the commission’s readiness to re-open some of the clubs.

He spoke on the need to maintain social distancing and proper hygiene across these facilities.

He said that while some businesses are complying with the registration procedure to open initiative, some are yet to comply.

“I urged all social clubs, event centres, betting centres, bars, night clubs, gaming arcades, casinos and all businesses captured under the ‘Register to Open Initiative’ to do so in earnest to allow the verification process take place,’’ Mojola said.

He warned centres that have completed their registrations and have had their centres verified, not to open until a formal announcement is made by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He said that the only way to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic was through a collective effort with all stakeholders.

The DG urged all Lagosians to cooperate with the government on adherence to all safety guidelines.
