Burna Boy, Fireboy shine at 2023 BMI awards



Nigerian music sensations Burna Boy and Fireboy DML basked in the limelight at the BMI London Awards 2023, a celebration of remarkable achievements in the music industry.

Both artists were honored with the prestigious ‘Most Performed Work of the Year’ award, an accolade presented to over 20 exceptional songs.

Burna Boy’s track ‘Last Last’ and Fireboy’s hit ‘Peru,’ featuring British singer Ed Sheeran, were among the standout winners.

In addition to the recognition of these accomplished musicians, Nigerian record producer Richard Isong, known as P2J, clinched the esteemed ‘Impact Award.’

The star-studded event at London’s Savoy Hotel, hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill, also celebrated British legend Gary Kemp, who received the coveted ‘Icon Award.’

American singer Doja Cat’s Afrobeat-infused song ‘Woman’ also earned the title of ‘Song of the Year.’

The BMI Awards are accolades presented annually by Broadcast Music, Inc., honoring songwriters, composers, and music publishers in various genres with remarkable talents for their contributions to music.
