Buhari dismisses bail option for Kanu, Igboho’s appeal adjourned

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, told British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, that Nigeria won’t consider a bail option for the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Buhari spoke on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
He said Kanu was being given every opportunity under the law “to justify all the uncomplimentary things said against Nigeria while he was in Britain.”
“His (Kanu’s) lawyers have access to him. Remember he jumped bail before, how are we sure he won’t do it again if he’s admitted to bail?” the President asked.
Similarly, the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Federal Government against the N20.5bn damages awarded in favour of Sunday Adeyemo aka Igboho against the Department of State Services.
An Oyo State High Court presided over by Justice Labiran Akintola had on September 17, 2021, awarded N20bn damages against the DSS for invasion of Igboho’s residence at the Soka area of Ibadan on July 1, 2021.
Igboho escaped death in the bloody invasion by the secret police which led to the killing of two persons and the destruction of his property.
