Bruno Labbadia reportedly rejects Super Eagles head coach job

Published

Bruno Labbadia has reportedly cut off communication with the Nigeria Football Federation and will no longer take up the role of head coach for the Super Eagles, as previously announced.

The NFF had announced Labbadia as the new head coach on August 27, replacing Finidi George.

He was expected to lead Nigeria in the upcoming Nations Cup qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.

A list of 23 players had already been released to prepare for these games.

However, recent reports suggest that Labbadia has decided to turn down the head coach position.

Ojora Babatunde reported on X: “Breaking: Newly appointed Super Eagles German tactician, Bruno Labbadia has decided to dump the Nigerian job as per various reports in Germany.”

Despite the announcement, Labbadia has now rejected the offer, leaving the Super Eagles without a head coach as they approach their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Benin on September 7.

There has been no official explanation as to why Labbadia decided not to accept the role given to him by the NFF.

The NFF will now have to find a new solution as the Super Eagles prepare for their upcoming matches without a head coach in place.
