The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has demoted the principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, Musa Ahmed, and a senior master, Adamu Shehu, for secretly selling school property.

The Commission said the two men were found guilty after a detailed investigation. According to the Commission’s Information Officer, Dahiru Adamu, they sold off 32 scrapped student beds, nine large aluminium pots, and some roofing zinc without getting approval from the state Ministry of Education.

“The commission approved their demotion after a proper investigation,” Adamu said in a statement released on Thursday.

He added that the overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Bashe, had set up a four-member committee to look into the matter.

“The committee found both officers guilty of the allegations,” Adamu explained.

He said both men have now been demoted by one grade level and will be posted to other schools as regular teachers.

“They will also refund N597,000, which is the total value of the items they sold,” Adamu stated.

He added that the principal, Musa Ahmed, has also been asked to pay N72,000, which he owed casual workers at the school.

Adamu said the commission is working with security agencies to recover the missing items.
