Armed bandits attacked traders on Thursday in Adafka, Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing one person and abducting at least 20 others.
The assailants reportedly blocked the road, targeting traders traveling from Adafka village to the Gurusu market, as well as those heading to Gusau, the state capital.
“The bandits killed one person and abducted an unspecified number of people, but those taken are more than 20. We are still compiling the list of the victims,” said Shehu.
He further noted that the response from security agencies was limited. Security personnel later arrived at the scene to help the community evacuate the body of the deceased for burial.
“They only came to help us carry the dead body for burial. They have not told us anything about the fate of those abducted,” he added.
Attempts to obtain a response from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
