Awoniyi’s Forest stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea’s slow start to the Premier League season continued on Saturday when they were shocked by a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
Despite spending over £1 billion on new players in just over a year under a consortium led by Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s lack of a natural goalscorer was again exposed.
Last month, Moises Caicedo’s move from Brighton, which could rise to £115 million, broke the British transfer record. However, the Ecuadorian international was responsible for the only goal conceded at Stamford Bridge, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s team embarrassed.
Anthony Elanga scored three minutes into the second half after Caicedo lost the ball inside his own half. New signing Cole Palmer was brought on to try and turn the game around, but Chelsea’s lack of firepower was evident.
Pochettino has only won one of his first four games in charge, leaving Chelsea eight points behind City. Meanwhile, Manchester United signed Amrabat, Bayindir and Reguilon on deadline day.
