Army neutralize four bandits, recover weapons in Kaduna


Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division and Operation Whirl Punch have successfully neutralized four bandits in Kampanin Doka village, located in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The operation resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons and other items from the criminals.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, released a statement confirming the successful operation.

Yahaya stated, “Following a clearance operation conducted by troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Operation Whirl Punch in the general area of Kampanin Doka village at Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State, four bandits who have been terrorising the locals have finally met their waterloo on 1 November 2023.

“During the operation, troops recovered one AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 magazine, one machete, one mobile phone, and fourteen Motorcycles from the criminals. In a related development, on 2 November 2023, some farmers who were harvesting their crops in the western part of Sabon Sara village fled their farms and alerted troops of the bandits’ attack.”

“The troops on receipt of the information quickly mobilized to the area. Upon arrival, four of the farmers courageously joined the troops and neutralised one bandit while others withdrew in disarray with gunshot wounds.

“The troops recovered two AK 47 rifles while one of the farmer, Mallam Abdulrahman Aliyu who sustained minor injuries during the encounter was immediately evacuated to a nearby military hospital for treatment.”

On November 3, 2023, troops conducted a clearance operation in various areas of the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, including Kankomi, Juji, Gwantu, Kujeni, Kikwari, and Kaso.

During this operation, troops encountered bandits and successfully neutralized two of them. The recovered items included another AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, four 7.62mm special ammunition rounds, a Honda motorcycle, and a Techno phone.

Major General VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, commended the troops for their bravery and also praised the farmers for their courageous efforts.

He urged the troops to remain vigilant and determined in their mission to completely neutralize all terrorists, bandits, and criminal elements within the division’s area of responsibility.
