The Nigerian Army has declared a three-day mourning period for 17 soldiers killed during attacks by terrorists in Niger State.

The soldiers were ambushed in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas, where they were fighting to protect lives and property. The Nigerian Army confirmed that many of the terrorists were also killed during the fierce battle.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the army said the mourning would last from June 25 to June 27, 2025.

“All Nigerian Army formations and units have been directed to fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast,” the statement read.

The army said the decision was to honour the fallen heroes who died in the line of duty.

“During this period, we pay our deepest respects to these fallen heroes and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones,” the statement continued.

It added that the soldiers’ “unwavering dedication, valour, and sacrifice in defense of our nation will forever be remembered and cherished.”
