Armed robbers kill two policemen, one other in Delta
Two policemen who were escorting some VIPs have been shot dead following an ambush on them by a gang of armed robbers.
WuzupNigeria gathered that they were attacked them at Orerokpe in Okpe local government area of Delta State.
According to reports, the VIPs, a husband and wife, sustained various degrees of injuries leading to the death of the wife who passed on Sunday at an undisclosed hospital.
It was also gathered that the hoodlums carted away a huge amount of money from the victims alongside the AK47 rifle of one of the slain policemen.
The Nation, in a report, identified the policemen as Inspector Otency Anebi and Sergeant Ikenna Emeka.
The paper said the duo were murdered by gunmen who laid ambush on the family they were deployed to protect.
It was gathered that they were in a vehicle with a business mogul, Nnamdi Okekeocha and his wife Chinonye, who were also shot at by the gunmen.
It added that while the two policemen died on the spot, the woman passed on before they arrived at a nearby hospital.
It was gathered that Okekeocha also sustained serious gunshot injuries and was allegedly unconscious in the hospital.
They were said to have been attacked while returning home from a hotel when the gunmen suddenly opened fire on them.
“They came under heavy firing from the gunmen. The Inspector had his AK47 rifle and returned fire but they were overpowered. The two policemen were killed and the family they were protecting fatally wounded.
“The armed men took away a huge sum of money as well as the rifle of the Inspector. A nearby patrol team raced to the scene where they found an AK47 rifle with a live ammunition and 17 empty shells.
“They took the bodies of the policemen to a mortuary and quickly rushed the injured husband and wife to the hospital but the woman was confirmed dead on arrival. The man who taken to emergency unit because he was unconscious,” he said.
