The All Progressives Congress in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State has suspended several key party officials, including Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum, and David Lyon, the APC candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial race.

The suspensions also include two active commissioners from the Bayelsa State administration, which is governed by the Peoples Democratic Party, who are also members of the APC.

The decision to suspend these individuals was made due to their alleged involvement in activities against the party and accusations of causing division within the party at the state level.

Mitin Eniekenemi, the APC leader in Ekeremor Local Government Area, confirmed the suspensions during a press conference on Friday. He stated, “The decision was made following the recommendations of an internal disciplinary committee established under Article 21.3(1) of the APC Constitution.”

In a related matter, APC officials in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area have also suspended David Lyon, along with the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Peres Biewari, and six others. They are accused of engaging in activities against the party and serious misconduct.

The APC leadership has indicated that the suspended members are believed to have harmed the party’s interests, particularly during the 2020 Bayelsa State bye-election.

The party has announced that investigations are ongoing, and more information about other members involved in anti-party activities will be revealed once the investigations are complete.
