Nollywood stars honour Olu Jacobs at Lagos tribute night

Nollywood stars, government officials and cultural figures have gathered in Lagos to celebrate the life and career of veteran actor Olu Jacobs following his death. Indeed, this occasion served as a heartfelt Olu Jacobs tribute.

According to Leadership, the event featured tributes and performances from family members, colleagues and friends who reflected on Jacobs’ influence on Nigerian film and theatre. Many described the gathering as a remarkable Olu Jacobs tribute highlighting his cultural impact.

His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their sons Gbenga and Soji were among those who participated in the ceremony paying their Olu Jacobs tribute.

Son remembers Jacobs as ‘magnetic’

Soji Jacobs recalled the private relationship he shared with his father despite the veteran actor’s fame.

“I didn’t really watch his films back then. For me, he was simply Dad,” he said.

“He was magnetic and genuine in his movement.”

Soji said his father protected the family’s privacy despite enjoying enormous affection from colleagues and fans. It is clear that the Olu Jacobs tribute will be cherished by his loved ones.

Nollywood colleagues remember mentor

Richard Mofe-Damijo, Sola Sobowale, Kate Henshaw, Hilda Dokubo and Norbert Young were among the industry figures present.

Young recalled working with Jacobs on the detective series Third Eye and credited the late actor with influencing his development.

“He loved to talk back then, and I loved to listen,” Young said.

“I became the actor I am today from listening to him.”

Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, following a career that made him one of Nollywood’s most respected actors.
