Anambra pastor commits suicide over heartbreak
A Pentecostal pastor in Nnewi, Anambra State, has taken his own life by jumping from a two-storey building after his lover rejected his marriage proposal.
The pastor, identified as Prosper Igboke, was 30 years old and hailed from Leru community in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State.
According to sources, Igboke had sponsored his lover’s education at the university, but she declined to marry him after graduating. This made him depressed and suicidal. He jumped from the building and died on the spot last month.
“The incident happened last month. The man (Igboke) was 30 years old at the time of his death. His girlfriend, whom he intended to marry, disappointed him after seeing her through the university.
“He jumped down from a two-storey building and died. I am surprised that a man of this age and a pastor can do this.” As narrated to journalists by a relative of the deceased
He further stated that Igboke was buried on Friday in a forest in his community, according to their tradition, for committing “sacrilege”.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said he was unaware of the incident and promised to investigate it.
