Ajayi relegates with West Brom after Arsenal loss
Nigeria international, Semi Ajayi and his West Brom side have been officially relegated from the Premier League after losing 3-1 to Arsenal on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal went into the break two goals ahead thanks to Emile Smith-Rowe (29′) and winger, Nicolas Pepe (35) before Fellipe Matheus Pereira pulled one back for Sam Allardyce’s men in the 67th minute.
Willian sealed the 3-1 win for the Gunners to confirm West Brom’s relegation from the top-flight after only spending one season after promotion.
Optajoe reported that this is West Brom’s 11th relegation from the top-flight, only Birmingham City (12) have suffered more top-flight relegations than the Baggies.
Albion’s gaffer, Allardyce, has now been relegated from the Premier League for the very first time, having managed in 17 different seasons in the competition.
Reacting after their relegation, Allardyce said, “It hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m bitterly disappointed we’re not still in the fight.”
Speaking on next season, the Englishman noted that “It’s too early to even consider. It’s about getting over the disappointment.”
