AFCON: Osimhen, Nwabali returns to training, Troost-Ekong absent

Published

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen on Tuesday rejoined full training with the Super Eagles as they geared up for their upcoming match against Angola.

Osimhen had skipped Monday’s training session at the Police College in Cocody, Abidjan, but was back on the field with his teammates.

The Napoli striker has been carefully managing his physical condition due to his high-intensity playing style, which places significant demands on his body. Despite this, the 25-year-old played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2-0 triumph against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday.

Similarly, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has returned to full training on Tuesday, boosting his chances of an early return ahead of the test.

In contrast, vice-captain William Troost-Ekong was absent from training for the second consecutive day. Troost-Ekong is contending with a thigh injury that has sidelined him since Nigeria’s last group match against Guinea-Bissau.

The PAOK Salonica defender has been a standout performer for the Super Eagles throughout the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles, led by coach Jose Peseiro, are slated to take on the Palancas Negras at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday.
