Abia police nab five for armed robbery, impersonation
Abia State Police have arrested five suspects involved in armed robbery and impersonation following recent operations conducted by the state Police Command.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Maureen Chinaka, the arrests were a result of credible intelligence received by the Central Police Station Umuahia on January 23, 2023.
The information revealed that a four-man gang, dressed in EFCC uniforms, robbed students at gunpoint and forced them to transfer N120,000 to their account at Enyioma Christ Lodge Umudike.
In response to the tip-off, officers from the CPS initiated an investigation and visited the crime scene.
This led to the arrest of three individuals from the Man o War base MOAU, identified as Onyedikachi Ihechukwumere (25 years), Onwuka Christopher (26 years), and Tochukwu Obinna (30 years).
Recovered items included three out of the six stolen phones and a tricycle with registration number HAF 011VG FLEET NO 5868 used during the criminal act.
Further operations on January 24, 2024, resulted in the arrest of James Prince Victor (39 years) of Ohuhu Umuahia North, who claimed to be an EFCC personnel.
Chidozie Onwuzuruike (40 years) of the same address was also arrested. Items recovered from them included four red-colored jackets with EFCC inscription, two EFCC ID cards, one of the stolen phones, a toy gun, and four EFCC search warrants.
The police spokesperson emphasized that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
She urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, emphasizing that security is a collaborative responsibility, and public cooperation aids effective policing.
Chinaka encouraged citizens to “say something when you see something” to enhance community safety.
