Abducted Catholic priest regains freedom
The gunmen who abducted a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Agwameseh of Issele-Uku Catholic Diocese in Delta State, has released him.
Rev. Fr. Samuel Agwameseh, who is the Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Issele-Mkpitime in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, was set free by his abductors on Monday night.
WuzupNigeria reports that the cleric was kidnapped on Saturday by the gunmen while he was returning from the neighbouring Onicha-Olona town where he had gone for the production of the church weekly bulletin meant for Sunday’s masses.
WuzupNigeria further reports that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N20 million.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, who confirmed the release of the priest, said he was not aware if ransom was paid to the gunmen.
He said,
“The priest was released last night but I’m aware if ransom was paid or not”
