The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has demanded the identity of a United States laboratory expected to conduct a DNA test to determine the paternity of the singer’s son, Liam.
According to The PUNCH, the family also requested the postponement of the examination scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Mainland General Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
The request was contained in a statement signed by the family head, Samuel Aloba, on Thursday.
The family expressed concern about reports that biological samples would be collected in Lagos and transported to the United States for analysis.
Mohbad’s family questions DNA testing arrangements
The family argued that the proposed arrangement required clarification to ensure compliance with an existing court order.
It maintained that the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre had been designated to conduct the examination under an order issued on May 5, 2026.
However, the family said it was unclear whether the centre would perform the actual analysis or merely transport the samples to an overseas laboratory.
The statement questioned whether such an arrangement would satisfy the court’s directive.
The family also requested the foreign laboratory’s name, address, accreditation details and testing procedures.
It insisted that the handling and transportation of biological samples must be properly documented.
Family seeks postponement of October 31 examination
The family maintained that adequate safeguards were necessary to prevent confusion over the eventual DNA results.
It also demanded procedures to verify that samples collected in Lagos were the same samples examined abroad.
The family stressed that its concerns did not amount to allegations that the proposed test had already been manipulated.
“In a matter as sensitive as Mohbad’s DNA, the result must not merely be announced; it must be demonstrably reliable,” the statement said.
It urged the relevant authorities to clarify the arrangements before proceeding with the examination.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, aged 27.
His death subsequently triggered investigations and legal proceedings concerning the circumstances surrounding his passing.
The family maintained that it supported a credible DNA examination capable of resolving the paternity dispute.
