The Federal High Court in Lagos has refused bail to businessman and social media influencer Afolabi Michael Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, over allegations of cocaine trafficking and money laundering.
According to The PUNCH, Justice Musa Kakaki rejected the application on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after finding insufficient medical evidence to justify the defendant’s release.
Kazeem is standing trial alongside Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch over allegations involving 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
Judge rejects KC Luxury’s medical bail application
Kazeem’s lawyer, Emefo Etudo, had sought his release on medical grounds.
The defence argued that the businessman’s health had deteriorated and that he required specialised treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
During an earlier court appearance, Kazeem was reportedly brought to the premises in an ambulance while receiving oxygen.
However, the prosecution challenged the application, arguing that the defence had failed to provide adequate evidence of circumstances warranting bail.
Delivering his ruling, Justice Kakaki said the defence had not produced sufficient medical documentation supporting its request.
“There is no medical certificate to warrant the court to grant him bail,” the judge ruled.
He maintained that a specialist’s assessment should support claims requiring exceptional medical consideration.
Court grants KC Luxury access to doctors
Although the court refused bail, Justice Kakaki directed the Ikoyi Custodial Centre to grant Kazeem unrestricted access to medical professionals.
The judge explained that qualified specialists could assess his condition and recommend appropriate treatment.
He also held that the defence had not established a sufficient change in circumstances to justify another bail application.
“The application is not granted; bail is refused to the first defendant. The case will proceed to an accelerated hearing,” he said.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Kazeem and the other defendants remain accused persons, and the allegations against them have not been determined by the court.
