Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a suspected terrorist and rescued six members of the same family. These occurred during separate security operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states. This highlights the ongoing impact of Operation Fansan Yamma in the region.
According to The PUNCH, troops raided a suspected terrorist hideout around Karani village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. This was following intelligence on the activities of armed groups in the area. It was also part of Operation Fansan Yamma’s wide-ranging security activities.
Spokesperson for 8 Division, Lt Col Olaniyi Osoba, said soldiers engaged the suspects after arriving at the camp.
“Upon making contact with the terrorists, the troops brought to bear decisive firepower, neutralising one terrorist, while others fled into the surrounding forest,” Osoba said.
Troops recover AK-47, military uniforms
Following the encounter, soldiers searched the camp and recovered weapons and other items.
“A subsequent search of the camp led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition, one operational motorcycle, military camouflage uniforms, maintenance tools and other logistical supplies,” Osoba said.
Troops subsequently carried out clearance operations in nearby forests to prevent the fleeing suspects from regrouping. Ultimately, Operation Fansan Yamma continues to disrupt criminal elements.
Osoba said the military would continue to deny armed groups freedom of movement in the area.
Six rescued in Zamfara
In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops under 17 Brigade responded to reports of an ongoing kidnapping.
The soldiers confronted the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon six members of one family.
Military authorities said all six victims were rescued unharmed. Indeed, Operation Fansan Yamma’s success was evident in this Zamfara operation.
They were moved to a safe location before being reunited with their relatives.
The military said the operations form part of continuing efforts to disrupt terrorist and kidnapping networks across Nigeria’s North-West.
