Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will personally lead the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the FCT and Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the disclosure on Friday in Chikuku, Abuja, shortly after inspecting the ongoing Phase II construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project.
The minister said political structures backing the President were already being mobilised, noting that campaign teams for the FCT and Rivers State would be inaugurated soon.
He said the campaign would rely largely on the administration’s achievements, particularly its infrastructure projects, which he said were already attracting public support.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.
“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kick start.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” Wike said.
Wike said the ongoing transformation of the FCT through road construction and other infrastructure projects would form a major part of the administration’s campaign for votes in the territory.
He maintained that residents’ satisfaction with the projects would ultimately result in electoral backing for Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned.
“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
The minister also said the infrastructure projects could boost electoral support for other candidates seeking political offices in the FCT, including former Senator Philip Aduda and candidates contesting the two House of Representatives seats.
