Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on members of the African Democratic Congress to reproduce across Nigeria the voter mobilisation and vote-protection approach witnessed during the recent governorship election in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who is the ADC presidential candidate, made the call in Akure, Ondo State, while addressing party supporters at a ceremony marking the defection of former Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), and his supporters to the ADC.
He described the outcome of the Osun governorship election as a demonstration of the influence voters can exert when they participate actively in the electoral process and protect their ballots.
According to him, the ADC would work towards mobilising voters nationwide and encouraging them to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
Atiku also restated his pledge that an ADC-led government would review the country’s fuel subsidy policy and strengthen security across the federation if elected in 2027.
Representing ADC National Chairman David Mark at the event, the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, urged Nigerians to exercise their franchise and use their votes to determine the political strength of the party.
Speaking on his decision to leave the PDP, Jegede cited the worsening economic conditions, unemployment and hardship confronting Nigerians as among the factors behind his move into the ADC.
Afenifere Secretary-General Backs Tinubu’s Re-election
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Sola Ebiseni, has left the Labour Party (LP) and announced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.
Ebiseni announced the decision when he led his supporters to the Ondo State Government House in Akure for a meeting with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
Receiving Ebiseni and his supporters, Aiyedatiwa pledged that they would be incorporated into the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign structure in the state.
The governor highlighted Ebiseni’s political experience, including his tenure as chairman of the former Ilaje-Ese-Odo Local Council and his service as a commissioner in the state, saying the experience would contribute to the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.
In his remarks, Ebiseni identified the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a major infrastructure project with the potential to significantly affect the lives and economic prospects of people living in the coastal communities of Ilaje in Ondo State.
