An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has granted social media personality Abiodun Ademola, popularly known as DJ Chicken, bail in the sum of ₦1m. Police arraigned him over alleged threats to kill Seyi Tinubu.
According to NAN, the 37-year-old appeared before the court on Friday. He faced a three-count charge of threat to life, offensive online publication and conduct likely to breach public peace.
The prosecution, led by SP Okunuga, Officer-in-Charge, Legal, Command Headquarters, Ikeja, alleged that Ademola committed the offences. The incident took place on July 5 at about 9:00 a.m. in Lekki, Lagos.
Police accused the defendant of posting a video on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, @djchicken. In that video, he allegedly threatened to kill Seyi Tinubu.
The prosecution said Ademola intended the message to reach Seyi Tinubu. It was meant to create fear through the publication circulated on social media.
Police also alleged that the defendant posted a grossly offensive and menacing video on Instagram. He did so with the intention of causing alarm.
According to the prosecution, Ademola allegedly threatened to kill Seyi Tinubu if President Bola Tinubu contested or won the 2027 presidential election.
The prosecution said the alleged conduct could cause a breach of public peace and disturb public order.
It added that the alleged offences contravened Sections 232 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Police also said the alleged online publication violated Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
When officials read the charges, Ademola pleaded not guilty before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi.
The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of ₦1m with two sureties in the same amount.
Onamusi ruled that one surety must be a blood relation who bears the defendant’s surname. The second surety must be a recognised community leader or clergyman.
The court also directed both sureties to provide evidence of three years’ tax payments. They must undergo LASTRA verification before the defendant can perfect his bail conditions.
The DJ Chicken arraignment comes amid increasing police attention on social media posts. These posts are considered threatening, offensive or capable of disturbing public order.
The court adjourned the matter until August 3 for further hearing.
