Sami Zayn’s reign as Undisputed WWE Champion came to an abrupt end during this week’s episode of WWE RAW, with CM Punk defeating him for the title in front of a hometown crowd in Chicago.

The championship bout was originally scheduled to feature Zayn defending the title against Cody Rhodes.

However, Rhodes was removed from the show after suffering a mysterious backstage attack, with storyline speculation pointing to Zayn as the possible attacker.

Following the victory, WWE Chief Content Officer, Triple H, took to social media to celebrate Punk’s championship win, noting the significance of the moment as it came nearly 15 years after Punk captured his first WWE Championship at Money in the Bank 2011.

That memorable pay-per-view, also held in Chicago at the same arena that hosted this week’s edition of RAW, saw Punk defeat John Cena before famously leaving WWE with the championship as part of one of the company’s most iconic storylines.

Becky Lynch, however, offered a contrasting view of the title change. Reacting on social media, the former WWE Women’s Champion said that Zayn, who has been a longtime friend since before they joined WWE, was robbed of the championship.
