A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has predicted a tough re-election battle for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would emerge victorious if he secures strong support across key regions of the country.

Speaking during an interview with Oseni Rufai on Nevon Media on Friday, Momodu said Atiku remains a formidable contender and is strategically placed to win the presidency.

He argued that the former presidential candidate’s strength in the North, combined with a competitive showing in the South, would give him a decisive advantage over both President Tinubu and Labour Party leader Peter Obi.

“As I predicted, Atiku will win the majority of the North, and if he is able to compete favourably in the South, it will be over for President Tinubu and Peter Obi.

“Atiku will secure at least 25% of the votes in 26 states while also dominating the North, which is where the bulk of the votes are,” he said.

Momodu further explained that Nigeria’s constitutional requirements for winning a presidential election extend beyond securing the highest number of votes nationwide. According to him, a candidate must also obtain at least 25 per cent of the votes in no fewer than two-thirds of the states.

The ADC stalwart maintained that Atiku is well positioned to meet those requirements, stressing that strong electoral support in the northern region could prove decisive in achieving the constitutional threshold needed to clinch victory in 2027.
