The All Progressives Congress has announced the reopening of its electronic membership registration exercise nationwide as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The exercise is set to commence on August 31, 2026, and will be available across wards in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the party, the registration is open to both current members seeking to update their details and Nigerians interested in joining the APC.
While existing members are required to verify their membership information, prospective members can register through the party’s electronic platform, according to Politics Nigeria.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
Morka said the exercise was part of efforts to establish a more dependable and digitally managed membership database ahead of another major electoral cycle.
He explained that the initiative would also strengthen the party’s capacity to manage membership information and utilise the data for effective planning and decision-making.
“The e-registration exercise is designed to digitise the party’s membership register, ensure the integrity of membership records, enhance efficient access to membership data for planning and management decisions, promote internal democracy, and strengthen the party’s commitment to democratic innovation in Nigeria,” Morka said.
The APC subsequently called on its members, supporters and other stakeholders to participate fully in the exercise.
The party said the process would enable existing members to correct or update their information while giving new members an avenue to formally join the organisation.
To qualify for registration, applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid National Identification Number, NIN.
The requirement is expected to assist the party in developing a more verifiable membership database while limiting errors and duplicate entries.
The electronic system differs from the traditional registration method by allowing membership records to be captured and maintained digitally. The arrangement is expected to improve the accessibility, updating and overall management of membership information.
The APC has continued to emphasise digitalisation as part of its efforts to reform its internal operations.
The party leadership has also associated the electronic membership platform with improved administration and wider participation in its activities.
Morka urged APC stakeholders across all levels to back the exercise and mobilise eligible Nigerians to take part.
He stressed that the effectiveness of the exercise would depend significantly on members and supporters supplying correct and accurate information.
The reopening further requires existing APC members to verify their previous registration details rather than assume that their earlier records remain sufficient.
They are expected to confirm their information to ensure that their records are accurately reflected in the party’s revised electronic database.
For Nigerians seeking to join the APC, the exercise offers an opportunity to complete the membership process through the party’s digital platform.
The party said the registration would take place at ward level nationwide, making the exercise accessible to members and prospective members at the grassroots.
In a related development, the APC extended its nationwide electronic membership registration exercise in January 2026 after recording more than seven million registrations.
The extension was announced on January 30 following a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja.
The party had initially fixed January 31 as the closing date but later shifted the deadline to February 8 to give additional Nigerians the opportunity to register.
Morka attributed the extension to appeals from members and stakeholders who requested more time to complete their registration.
“With respect to the e-registration, there’s no complicated explanation. We just want more members to register,” Morka said.
He added that the extension was also intended to respond to the strong interest demonstrated by existing members and Nigerians seeking to join the party.
