The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested eight suspected armed robbers and drug dealers during a coordinated operation in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
According to The Punch, the suspects were apprehended in the Yolde-Pate area following credible intelligence gathered by security operatives.
In a statement issued on Monday in Yola, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the operation targeted members of a suspected criminal network linked to violent crimes and the distribution of banned substances.
“On the strength of credible intelligence, operatives carried out a coordinated operation in Yola, leading to the arrest of eight suspects for criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons, and the sale and consumption of banned substances,” Nguroje said.
The suspects were identified as Bawuro Mohammad, 23; Hamza Hassan, 18; Aliyu Abubakar, 20; Alfa Abubakar, 22; Fahat Hamma, 20; Dahiru Usman, 20; Ibrahim Samaila, 22; and Jefe Jostine, 25.
According to the police, the suspects, who reside in Shagari, Yolde-Pate and Wuro Hausa communities in Yola South, were arrested during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling a suspected Shilla criminal network.
“All residents of various addresses within Shagari, Yolde-Pate and Wuro Hausa in Yola South LGA were apprehended during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling a Shilla criminal network and preventing violent crimes within the state,” the statement added.
The command disclosed that dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Hassan, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and assured residents that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive action.
