“Sinners” and its cast emerged as top winners at the 2026 SAG Actor Awards on Sunday night, with Michael B Jordan taking home two major honours at the ceremony held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Jordan secured the award for male actor in a leading role for his dual performance as the Smokestack twins in Ryan Coogler’s supernatural thriller. He triumphed over nominees including Timothée Chalamet for “Marty Supreme” and Leonardo DiCaprio for “One Battle After Another.”
Later in the evening, Jordan returned to the stage as “Sinners” won the award for film ensemble, beating out “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme” and “One Battle After Another.”
During his acceptance speech, the 39-year-old actor delivered an emotional tribute to his mother, Donna Jordan, who was visibly moved in the audience.
“Mom, thank you for driving me back and forth to New York,” Jordan said while making eye contact with her. “When we didn’t have enough money to go through the Holland Tunnel, when we were looking for gas money, parking spaces, when I went up there for my auditions.”
Jordan also thanked longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler, who received an Oscar nomination for writing and directing “Sinners.”
“I want to thank Ryan Coogler for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do, and to be fearless and to create a safe space for us to find the truth… what you do with all the other actors that we had an opportunity to work with,” he said.
He acknowledged his co-stars Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Miles Caton, saying, “You guys lent us your talents, and you lent us your time and your vulnerability. So, thank you for allowing me to do my best work.”
Admitting he “wasn’t expecting this at all,” Jordan showed appreciation to fellow nominees Chalamet, DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons.
