Residents of Woro community in Kwara State have fled to neighbouring Niger State following a deadly terrorist attack earlier this week that reportedly killed over 176 people.

The attack, which began on Tuesday evening and lasted into Wednesday morning, forced families to abandon their homes with few belongings as fear spread across the area.

A viral video shows displaced persons gathered by the roadside in Wawa town, Niger State. Several vehicles believed to have transported them from Kwara were parked nearby. Under a temporary tent, women, children, and men sat on plastic chairs or on the ground, many appearing exhausted.

The Special Assistant to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, ZulQharnain Musa, confirmed the community has been completely deserted.

“The whole community has been deserted as of Saturday. Residents have absconded to neighbouring communities, including Niger State, Kaiama town, and some of those who escaped through the thick forest ended up in Baruten,” Musa told The PUNCH.

He added that security forces, including an army battalion deployed on President Bola Tinubu’s directive, are now stationed in the area. However, many residents remain too fearful to return, with entire households still seeking refuge in host

communities.
