The Coalition of Northern Groups has sounded the alarm over what it described as a coordinated and escalating campaign against Northern Nigeria, claiming that both foreign actors and domestic saboteurs are working to destabilise the region and exacerbate insecurity across the country.

In a statement, the CNG expressed concern that the United States, despite its sophisticated intelligence apparatus, has been misled by what it called a “dangerous propaganda narrative” portraying the violence in Plateau and Benue States as genocide, while ignoring the far higher casualty figures in Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kebbi, Borno, and other northern states.

The National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said the recent surge in violent attacks across the North bears the marks of a deliberate, well-funded agenda orchestrated both domestically and internationally.

Charanchi described it as “alarming” that US President Donald Trump appeared influenced by “misinformation not supported by the CIA, FBI, or even the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria.”

He further noted that Trump’s special envoy for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, had publicly dismissed the genocide claims as baseless, underscoring what the coalition called the need for careful scrutiny of external narratives on Nigeria’s security challenges.
