The Christian Association of Nigeria has welcomed the decision of the United States government to assist Nigeria in tackling killings and insecurity.

Speaking on Tuesday at the opening of CAN’s Fourth Quarterly National Executive Council meeting in Jos, the President of the association, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said it was sad that Nigeria continued to draw global attention for negative reasons. He said, “Though we are pained that Nigeria is being spotlighted for such grievous reasons, if international attention is what is required to spur decisive governmental action to protect lives and bring lasting peace, then we, the Christian community in Nigeria, welcome it.”

He added that CAN had been firm on its position regarding the killings. According to him, “CAN has spoken clearly and courageously on this matter, and we stand unwavering by our position that there is Christian genocide in Nigeria.”

Okoh said the Christian community remained hopeful despite the challenges. He urged leaders to stay united, prayerful, and courageous, saying they must continue to give hope even in moments of sorrow. He also referenced scripture, noting, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The CAN President said the group would keep pushing for justice and greater security for its members. He said, “Let me assure you that CAN will not relent. We will continue to demand justice. We will continue to call for accountability.”

He also called for the resettlement of all displaced persons back to their ancestral communities, describing their long stay in camps as a painful mark on the nation’s conscience. He added, “Our God has not abandoned us. This darkness shall not overcome the light of Christ.”

Okoh said the choice of Jos for the meeting was deliberate and meaningful, describing the city as a place that had suffered, prayed, and continued to rise with faith. He expressed hope that the meeting would strengthen church unity and contribute to peace across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the meeting will discuss major national matters and strategies for the coming year.
