Nigeria moved a step closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a thrilling 4-1 extra-time victory over Gabon on Thursday night at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.

The Super Eagles showed strong determination after a goalless first half. Akor Adams opened the scoring in the 78th minute when he capitalised on a defensive blunder and calmly slotted the ball past Gabonโ€™s goalkeeper, Loyce Mbaba.

Gabon equalised in the 89th minute through Mario Leminaโ€™s deflected effort, sending the match into extra time.

In extra time, Nigeria took control. Chidera Ejuke restored the lead in the 97th minute after connecting with Wilfred Ndidiโ€™s clever pass. Moments later, Victor Osimhen stole the show with two quick goals in the 102nd and 110th minutes, sealing a commanding 4-1 victory.

The Super Eaglesโ€™ defence, led by Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey, stayed solid despite Gabonโ€™s late pressure.

With the win, Nigeria advanced to the CAF playoff final, where they will face the winner between DR Congo and Cameroon for a place in the intercontinental playoff round.
